I
thought it was an interesting time to get this gallery up, as Kodak
has just announced it plans to discontinue production of its
HIE-135 infrared film. I believe that photographers can get close
to the same quality of images using digital cameras now, making the
film obsolete. Read the whole
article here.
Newest
Fad?
December 30TH, 2007
I
just started a minicity at myminicity.com. Is it the newest fad?
Is it a marketing strategy? Will I receive tons of spam? Who knows?
I
have added instructions for how I modified a Canon
Powershot A200 camera to take Infrared Photographs.
Here
is a photo of a local business at Rochester Technology Park.
It was a sunny winter day, with some clouds in the sky, perfect
for IR photography. There was a little snow on the ground
too. This image is interesting because of the moire effect
the building created. Also of interest is the different panneling
on the building which is not readily obvious in the visible
spectrum. In addition, I believe a plane is flying over the
building. It shows up as a bright spot on the dark sky.
Do
It Yourself Infrared Camera
November 19TH, 2007
I
read online about how to convert a standard digital camera into
an infrared camera. It looked really neat so I gave it a shot.
Success on the first try! I am working on making a do it yourself
guide on how I did it, and adding images to a gallery as I take
them. Its all really neat, and I am really excited about it.
I
decided to have a little fun with our pumkins this year, and made
a scaredycat pumkin in memory of our web site. Then I decided to
do a little time-lapse art. The following pictures were taken with
different exposures for intervals of 5-15 seconds. I used a flashlight,
lighter, and LEDs for the effects.

Danica Patrick Images. I hope to add more soon.

Implosions For Kodak Park - Buildings 65 and 69 October
6TH, 2007
Great day for
an implosion, why not do two? I got to the viewing area a little
late so I couldn't set up my second camera to do a movie, so images
is all you get. It was quite impressive, and with a South Westerly
wind the spectator area was right in the middle of the dust cloud.
It only took about 30 seconds for the dust to reach us. It was
very thick. We got the whole implosion experience in this one.
As before, I have a photo gallery and stitched together movie for
users to view.
Buildings 65 and 69 Implosions, October 6th 2007
I
have created some videos of the implosions by stringing together
images from the implosion galleris. I took a series of pictures
in burst mode with our digital camera.

No
Hitter at Fenway Park September
15TH, 2007
Way
back in February of this year, I spent several hours sitting at
my laptop computer trying to win tickets to a Boston Red Sox game
in the ticket lottery. Tickets to all but the Yankee's series games
are sold at that time, and they sell out usually by the end of
the day.
A couple hours
after the site opened for sale, I was able to purchase 4 tickets.
This was my first time since 2000, I believe, that I was able to
purchase tickets to Fenway at Face Value.
Four tickets for my Brother in Law, and our wives on Saturday September
1st 2007.
We traveled out
that morning, and to our amazement, we managed to see Clay Buchholz
pitch a rookiw no hitter. Only the 11th no hitter in Fenway Park
history. The night was electric. Fenway was as loud as any of us
had ever heard it. From the sixth inning on we all knew we were
witnessing something special. By the 7th, we knew the game was
won. By the ninth the crowd was in a frenzy and standing for every
pitch. This was the second time my hands hurt so hard from clapping
them. (The first being the NHL game between the Flyers and Senators
in which the record for most Penalty Minutes in a game was broken).
Video I took
from the Grandstands that night, Section 3. Trying that YouTube
thing...

Cape
Cod and More Panoramic Images September
15TH, 2007
I just got back from Cape Cod for a weeks vacation a few weeks ago,
and I have a few new panoramic images added to the panoramics
gallery. There are some from cape cod, and one from Kodak Park
that I took after the Building 23 Implosion.
These panoramics
are available for viewing in the Panoramic
Images Photo Gallery.
Given some time,
I will probably get a few of the better images I took uploaded.
We visited Province Town, Chatham, Centreville, Falmouth, and Martha's
Vinyard.
More
Implosion Movies and Galleries September
15TH, 2007
I just got around
to creating a video clip of the Building 23 implosion at Kodak
Park on July 1st 2007. The reason why? Well, there was another
implosion at Kodak today, Building 50. It was at 7:00 AM this morning.
A little cool and some drizzle, as a front had come in last night.
Kinda dark, but my dad and I had a good time. Estimated crowd was
around 350 people. Far fewer than the 2,000-3,000 estimated for
building 9 and 23 a few months ago.

Simpsonized! August
19TH, 2007
This is old news,
but when the Simpsons Movie came out, Burger King ran a promotion
where you could "Simpsonize" a version of yourself, to see what
you look like as a Simpsons Character. Well it didn't work out
well at first, as the site couldn't handle the overload, and many
people waited a long time (takes like 500 seconds to process an
image) and got no picture. Also, the face recognition software
isn't the greatest (but its also very difficult to do) so the pictures
don't always look really like you. Putting these things aside,
I still thought it was worth a try, so here is what I created with simpsonizeme:

Kodak
Park Building Implosions
July 2ND, 2007
This weekend
I went to Kodak Park in Rochester, NY to watch the implosion of
two buildings. The first was Building 9 at 8:00AM on Saturday June30th.
It was a fantastic implosion and I was able to view it from as
close as 1500 Feet. I took around 90 pictures in all of the building
prior to, during, and after the implosion.
The burst mode
on our Canon SD700 IS was fantastic, capturing about 5 images every
2 seconds. Here's a sample of some of the photos. And a video of
all the burst photos strung together.

In forwards, and in Reverse. Each image has a duration of about

I have created
two image galleries on the Digital Images
Page of this web site. One gallery for each implosion.
Each gallery also contains some information about the implosion,
and a little bit about my impressions of each event..
Google
Maps and ScaredyCatFilms
May 09TH, 2007
Recently
I started working with the publicly available Google Maps API.
It is a really neat tool that allows anybody with access to data
to display it on a Map. I have chosen to display the location of
National Geodetic Survey disks. These disks are usually about 4-inch
round brass monuments in concrete posts. They are used for surveying
at various locations. There are thousands of these disks in each
state.
Example Survey
Marker Viewer
I
have created a sub-domain from this web site for the purposes
of displaying the survey markers. For now, each state will have
its
own page. Google Maps, is generally speedy about displaying 100
markers on a map at one time, so the 66,000+ markers in California
alone, would certainly bog down the viewer. For that reason I
have started with a state by state implementation.
Great
News - ScaredyCatFilms Available in China!
March 18TH, 2007
I
ran accross this web site, GreatWallOfChina.org, which checks to
see if your web site is available in China. In case you were not
aware, China blocks a large number of web sites in an effort to
keep communist control over its populace. The good news is that
ScaredyCatFilms is not blocked in China!
New
Look Home Page
March 8TH, 2007
I thought I would
try to update the look of this page, make it look a little more
BLOG like. We'll see if I was successful. Have to get some more
updates here first. Get these pages populated. I think I will try
and get more of my photography up here. Some selections of the
nicer photos of taken, a kind of amature portfolio. Hopefully it
will grow, and get better and better.
